The Michigan Technology Education Center is a perfect example of a combined
community effort. This modern facility has been designed to train a skilled
workforce for southwest Michigan. Located in the Kalamazoo Valley Community
College Education Business Technology Park off I-94 the 72,000 square foot
building is a testament to cutting edge technology. From the futuristic
look of the building to the computer information systems, the building offers
an exciting environment for learning.
Constructed in a twelve-month period, the facility was challenged by available
funding for the budget. Value engineering and reengineering of components
assured a project that could meet budget. Team members worked closely
to maintain the budget during the duration of the project. The project
was delivered using a fast track method divided into five various bid
packages. At the end of bidding the project moved forward with less than
a 2% contingency. Considering the type of delivery, this is an unheard
of accomplishment. The project was completed for the precise budget amount
of $11,000,000. MTEC is proof that a team effort can make the difficult
possible.
