Once strictly an indoor tennis facility, the West Hills Athletic Club was acquired by Western Michigan University and turned into an off campus athletic facility for both their student population as well as the public. It was the University's desire to renovate the vast open spaces of these pre-engineered structures and create a more modern fitness facility, and to do so while maintaining business as usual. Kalleward Group was contracted on a Design/Build basis to renovate and update these buildings to include new locker rooms, weight training rooms, cardio theaters, aerobic rooms with specialized flooring, and an indoor running track with banked corners, as well as refinishing the existing indoor tennis courts. Administrative offices, child care center facilities and ADA issues were also major factors in the redesign and final construction. |
