Nearly 4 years after the formation of the Kalamazoo County Consolidated Dispatch Authority and 30 years after the idea was first proposed, the KCCDA received voter approval for funding to create a consolidated dispatch center. To create a home for the center, KCCDA selected Kalleward Group to lead a renovation to convert the 19,000 square foot former Consumers Credit Union world headquarters. The new dispatch center consolidates the independent call center operations of the City of Kalamazoo, the City of Portage, Kalamazoo County, Kalamazoo Township, and Western Michigan University. The consolidation has led to quicker call processing and dispatch times, resulting in faster on-scene response times for field personnel. The renovation involved updating communication, electrical, and mechanical systems, installing additional security systems and amenities, enhancing structural infrastructure, and implementing site security measures. Jeff Troyer, KCCDA’s first executive director, has called the project, “the greatest collaboration in Kalamazoo County’s history.” Kalleward Group is proud to have played a role in it.
